2000 Volvo S40 overheating. (Very small crack in the upper radiator hose)?

Ok ... My 2000 Volvo S40 heats after being expelled during hot weather or if I'm stuck in traffic for a while, but will not happen if its cold outside .. I checked for leaks and was able to find a small crack in the articulation of the upper radiator hose cooling .. My question is, is it possible that this small crack is the cause of overheating?
